A collapse at a gold mine in Mali has resulted in at least 48 fatalities.
The mine, which collapsed yesterday (Saturday), was illegal and had been declared abandoned long ago.
According to police, the collapse occurred around 6 PM local time. There were 48 deaths reported, with some individuals drowning.
Among the deceased is a woman who was carrying her small child on her back. A local official has also confirmed the mine collapse.
The 'Keniaba Gold Miners Association' has reported the death toll of 48. Rescue operations are still ongoing, according to the head of an environmental organization.
